Tattoo Plans

This is my current tattoo, which was done in 2003.

It was originally meant to be a dove carrying a yin/yang, with a dolphin leaping out of it. Somewhere along the way, the dove became a parrot, the dolphin looks like it’s riding a unicycle (or perhaps a wheelchair!), and the whole thing has a distinctly “my mate knows someone who does tattoos” feel.

Twenty-three years later, I think it’s finally time to give it the makeover it deserves.

I’d love to create a beautiful cover-up inspired by the reference image, although I’m completely open to your ideas and composition.

The three elements are important to me because each represents a significant part of my journey:

Dove
The peace I’ve finally found within myself.

Yin/Yang
The balance I’ve found in my life.

Dolphin
My freedom, confidence and ability to express who I truly am.

The positioning of these elements is completely flexible. My priority is creating the strongest possible design while ensuring it provides an effective cover-up. If moving everything around creates a better tattoo, I’m all for it.

I love the rich blue and purple colour palette in the reference image. Purple is my favourite colour, and I love how the blue ties in with the ocean and the dolphin.

I’m looking for something realistic, elegant and timeless, with depth, movement and plenty of darker areas to successfully cover the existing tattoo. Most importantly, I’d love to leave with a tattoo that people immediately recognise as a dove, rather than starting a debate about what species of bird it is! 😄
